Objectives:  Define and explain accommodations required of hospitals and their staff for patients with hearing and sight impairments, and exceptions thereto.  Offer recommendations to increase quality of effective communication with sight and hearing impaired patients.

Understand the ADA and California requirements regarding service dogs in the healthcare setting.  What is the difference: service dogs, therapy dogs, support dogs.  What to say and do within the parameters of the law when a patient or visitor wants to bring their “service animal” into the hospital? Liability considerations. Penalties for fraudulently claiming dog is a service animal.
